Kuwait’s civil aviation authority has clarified the status of transit operations at Kuwait International Airport, confirming that transit flights remain suspended until further notice following reports suggesting that services would resume from October 1.
Civil aviation spokesman Abdullah Al-Rajhi said information circulating about the resumption of transit operations was inaccurate and stressed that the authority had not coordinated with any airline to reopen transit services or approved their return during the current period.
The clarification is particularly important for passengers planning journeys that use Kuwait International Airport as a connecting point, as travellers should verify their itinerary before purchasing tickets or heading to the airport while the transit suspension remains in place.
The authority said airlines operating at Kuwait International Airport had not been informed that transit operations would resume from October 1 and stressed that carriers must obtain accurate regulatory information before publishing announcements concerning flight operations or aviation services.
The clarification followed an announcement by an airline concerning transit bookings without prior approval from the authority, prompting civil aviation officials to take administrative measures against the company under the regulations and procedures currently in force.
Kuwait’s aviation authorities said the instructions suspending transit operations were introduced amid regional developments and security conditions, with passenger safety, aircraft security and the protection of airport facilities remaining central considerations behind operational decisions.
The suspension of transit services does not mean that all flights to and from Kuwait have stopped, as approved direct passenger operations continue under the current operating arrangements while the restriction specifically concerns travellers using Kuwait as a connecting point to another destination.
Passengers are therefore advised not to rely solely on commercial advertisements or online booking results when planning a transit journey through Kuwait and should instead verify the latest status directly with their airline and official civil aviation channels before paying for a ticket.
The authority has also urged airlines to exercise greater accuracy when publishing operational information that could affect passengers, warning that unapproved announcements can create confusion and lead travellers to make bookings for services that have not received regulatory clearance.
Civil aviation officials confirmed that any future decision to change the current transit restrictions or authorise the resumption of connecting operations will be announced through official channels, meaning the suspension remains in effect unless a new formal announcement is issued.
