The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has clarified how private-sector establishments are dealt with when employee salaries are delayed, confirming that the Wage Protection System follows a gradual enforcement process beginning with electronic monitoring and notifications.

The system is designed to ensure that workers receive their wages in full and on time while also giving establishments an opportunity to correct delayed payments before administrative measures are imposed.

Companies registered with the ministry are monitored through the Wage Protection System, which tracks salary transfers through approved financial channels and identifies establishments that fail to pay employees within the required timeframe.

When a delay is detected, electronic reminders and notifications are sent to the establishment, requiring the employer to address the outstanding salary payments and correct the company’s status within the applicable period.

If non-compliance continues, authorities may move to stronger administrative measures, including the suspension of new work permits for the establishment until the wage issue is resolved and the company returns to compliance.

The ministry has stressed that these measures do not introduce new obligations for employers but instead strengthen the implementation of existing wage-payment requirements and standardise how violations are monitored and addressed.

Electronic monitoring allows the ministry to identify salary delays at an early stage and intervene before the issue becomes prolonged, providing additional protection for employees who may otherwise remain unpaid for an extended period.

Paying salaries on time remains a key legal obligation for private-sector employers in the UAE, with wages required to be transferred through approved systems in accordance with employment contracts and applicable labour regulations.

Employers are advised to monitor their Wage Protection System status and respond promptly to any official notification, as prolonged delays may result in additional restrictions or administrative action depending on the duration and seriousness of the violation.

Workers who experience delayed salaries can also use the official channels of the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation to seek assistance or submit a labour complaint so that the matter can be reviewed and the appropriate action taken.
