Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has approved a five-year expansion plan for its smart mobility network through 2030, aiming to strengthen connections between residential communities and public transport stations while improving first- and last-mile travel.

The strategy includes upgrading infrastructure across 25 residential areas and enhancing the surroundings of 63 public transport stations by 2030. Planned improvements include safer pedestrian routes, cycling tracks, accessible facilities for People of Determination, and dedicated spaces for shared mobility services.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, said the initiative supports the goals of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and reinforces Dubai’s vision of becoming the world’s best city to live in through an integrated, sustainable transport system.

Al Tayer highlighted strong growth in mobility indicators during 2025. Pedestrian trips increased to 342 million, up 5% from 2024, while cycling trips reached 57.3 million and e-scooter journeys climbed to 39.6 million. Infrastructure readiness around public transport stations also reached 87%, with pedestrian satisfaction rising to 89%.

The plan aims to transform metro and bus stations into fully integrated mobility hubs by improving links with residential neighborhoods, business districts, and key destinations, creating smoother, safer, and more efficient journeys for residents and visitors.

The initiative also expands smart mobility infrastructure in additional communities, building on projects already completed in several Dubai neighborhoods. Upgrades include wider pedestrian pathways, dedicated cycling facilities, safe crossings, shaded walkways, and urban landscaping around transport stations.

The roadmap is based on a comprehensive study promoting non-motorized transportation such as walking and cycling while introducing unified transport integration standards that support sustainability, improve quality of life, and strengthen Dubai’s long-term urban and economic development.
