Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced that its strategic investments in power transmission projects have exceeded AED 10 billion, reinforcing Dubai’s electricity infrastructure to support rapid economic growth and meet the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and Dubai Social Agenda 33.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, said the continued investment reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to position Dubai among the world’s leading cities in infrastructure quality and sustainable development.

During the first half of 2026, DEWA commissioned eight new 132kV transmission substations with a combined transformation capacity of 1,200 MVA, supported by investments worth AED 970 million, in addition to installing 20 kilometres of transmission cables.

The authority also completed a new 132/400kV transmission substation in Saih Al Dahal within the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. The project has a total transformation capacity of 2,000 MVA and an investment value of AED 630 million, including 117 kilometres of 400kV overhead transmission lines.

Al Tayer noted that the projects required more than nine million working hours and were delivered using advanced digital technologies while adhering to the highest standards of reliability, efficiency, availability, and safety.

He added that DEWA is currently implementing 65 transmission substations in cooperation with strategic partners and plans to tender more than 30 additional 132kV substations, two 400kV substations, and 340 kilometres of underground transmission cables over the next three years.

According to DEWA, these projects are designed to meet rising electricity demand and strengthen Dubai’s infrastructure as a key driver of economic and social development.

Hussain Lootah, Executive Vice President of Power Transmission at DEWA, said the newly commissioned substations serve several strategic areas across Dubai. He added that the total number of DEWA transmission substations reached 402 by the end of the first half of 2026, including 28 substations operating at 400kV and 374 operating at 132kV.

The authority also awarded contracts during the first half of the year to build 21 additional 132kV transmission substations across multiple districts, alongside 64 kilometres of new transmission cables valued at AED 3 billion to connect the new facilities to Dubai’s main electricity transmission network.
