Saudi Arabia’s National Center for Meteorology has raised weather alert levels across several regions on Thursday, October 8, 2026, as thunderstorms and heavy rainfall continue to affect multiple parts of the Kingdom.
According to the official early warning platform, 58 active weather alerts were listed at the time of review, including 15 red alerts, alongside additional orange and yellow warnings reflecting different levels of expected weather impact.
Several red alerts cover parts of the Makkah Region, where heavy rain is expected to be accompanied by severe winds, sharply reduced or zero horizontal visibility, hail, flash flooding and frequent thunderstorms.
In Taif, one of the red alerts runs from noon until 8 p.m., with warnings of intense rainfall and associated risks to roads, valleys and low-lying areas.
The severe weather also affects parts of the Asir Region, including Rijal Almaa and Mahayil, where heavy rain alerts are in effect from noon until 8 p.m. and include warnings for strong winds, zero visibility, hail, flash floods and thunderstorms.
Similar conditions are forecast in parts of Jazan, including Al-Darb and Bish, where heavy rain alerts are scheduled from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m., with authorities warning of hail, severe winds, flooding and lightning activity.
Other areas are under lower-level warnings. Al-Qunfudhah is expected to experience light rain with active winds, reduced visibility and thunderstorms, while parts of the Eastern Province are also affected by rain and fog-related alerts.
The red alert level indicates a high potential for dangerous weather impacts, particularly where heavy rain can lead to sudden flooding in valleys and low-lying areas or cause a rapid deterioration in visibility on roads.
Residents and travellers in affected areas are advised to follow official updates from the National Center for Meteorology and Civil Defense and to avoid crossing floodwater or entering valleys during periods of heavy rain.
Motorists should reduce speed, increase following distance and check road conditions before travelling, especially as warning times differ between regions and may be extended or updated depending on how the weather system develops.
The National Center for Meteorology continues to update its early warning platform throughout the day, making official alerts the most reliable source for the latest information on affected locations and warning periods.
