Kuwait’s Ministry of Education has taken further action following an incident in which several female students at a secondary school suffered suffocation symptoms, while authorities continue investigating the circumstances and determining responsibility.
The ministry initially confirmed that all affected students were in stable condition and said their health was being monitored closely in coordination with the relevant authorities to ensure they received the necessary medical care.
Education Minister Sayed Jalal Al-Tabtabai later visited the students to check on their condition and stressed that student health and safety remain among the ministry’s highest priorities, with follow-up continuing until all required procedures are completed.
As part of the measures taken after the incident, the minister ordered the school administration suspended from duty for three months pending the outcome of the investigation and appointed a new administration to oversee the school and maintain stability in the educational process.
The Ministry of Education also said preliminary investigations established the involvement of a number of students in the incident, prompting disciplinary and educational measures in accordance with the ministry’s comprehensive regulatory framework.
The behaviours established during the preliminary investigation were classified as serious disciplinary violations, and the ministry stressed that the measures taken against the students involved were based on the applicable regulations.
However, the investigation remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to examine all causes and circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether additional individuals or administrative parties bear responsibility.
The ministry said appropriate action will be taken against anyone found responsible or negligent once the investigation is completed, emphasising that it will not tolerate behaviour that threatens the safety or stability of the school environment.
Kuwait’s Ministry of Education also thanked the Ministry of Health and medical teams for their rapid response and the care provided to the affected students, while confirming that coordination and follow-up will continue until the case is fully concluded.
