Passengers travelling between the UAE and India on IndiGo may face higher ticket prices after the Indian airline recalibrated its fuel charges across domestic and international routes from October 6, 2026, citing a sustained increase in aviation turbine fuel costs.

IndiGo officially confirmed that the revised fuel charges apply to all new bookings made after 12:01 a.m. on October 6, meaning passengers purchasing tickets after that time may see the new surcharge reflected in their overall fare.

For international routes, the revised fuel charge ranges from Rs1,000 to Rs10,000 depending on the distance travelled, compared with the previous range of Rs900 to Rs10,000. The increase therefore varies according to the specific route rather than applying as one fixed amount to every international passenger.

The change affects new bookings on IndiGo services between the UAE and India, but the final ticket price depends on more than the fuel surcharge. Base fares, travel dates, demand levels and the number of seats still available can all significantly influence what a passenger ultimately pays.

Travel agents in the UAE told Khaleej Times that the overall increase could reach around Dh200 per passenger on some journeys. However, this is an estimate for certain bookings rather than a standard Dh200 charge imposed on every UAE-India ticket.

The development is particularly relevant to the large number of UAE residents who regularly travel to India for work, holidays and family visits, as even relatively modest increases can have a noticeable impact on the total cost of travel for families booking several seats.

IndiGo said the decision was driven by continuously rising aviation turbine fuel costs, which represent a major component of airline operating expenses and can have a substantial effect on the economics of both domestic and international services.

Travellers planning trips between the UAE and India are therefore advised to compare different travel dates and fares before booking rather than assuming a fixed increase, as the final amount will vary according to the route, timing, demand and seat availability.
