Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority is continuing to advance its driver licensing services through the deployment of the latest smart technologies, including the new generation of its Smart Test System.

The upgraded system is designed to improve the accuracy and impartiality of driver assessment while raising transparency and fairness throughout the testing process. It also aims to improve the customer experience and strengthen road safety by monitoring driving behaviors and safety-related practices during the test, allowing preventive intervention when potential risks are detected.

The new generation of the Smart Test System uses advanced artificial intelligence technologies inside the testing vehicle to monitor how closely trainees comply with testing and safety standards. Sultan Al Akraf, Director of Drivers Licensing at the Licensing Agency of the Roads and Transport Authority, said the development represents another step in the authority’s smart transformation of driver licensing services. The system is intended to assess trainee performance according to accurate and standardized criteria, reducing variations in evaluation and providing customers with clearer and more transparent testing outcomes.

The technology goes beyond automatically calculating driving test results. It provides an integrated system capable of monitoring and analyzing a trainee’s performance while different maneuvers are being carried out. Recorded mistakes can also be displayed visually and clearly, enabling customers to understand the reasons behind their results and identify the areas of their driving performance that require improvement. This approach provides greater visibility into the assessment process and gives trainees a clearer understanding of how their performance was evaluated during the test.

Safety technologies form another central element of the upgraded system. Artificial intelligence supports collision prevention and preventive emergency braking features designed to protect trainees while tests are taking place. As part of the enhanced safety framework, an automatic preventive braking system has also been developed for testing areas. The technology can intervene automatically when it detects a situation that could potentially result in a collision or create another safety risk, helping address dangerous situations before they develop into accidents during the examination.

Through the latest Smart Test System, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority is combining artificial intelligence, automated assessment, performance monitoring and preventive safety technologies within the driver testing process. The system is designed to make evaluations more consistent while allowing trainees to see recorded mistakes and understand the areas requiring further improvement. At the same time, automated preventive braking and collision prevention technologies add another layer of protection during testing. Together, these capabilities support a safer, more controlled and transparent testing environment while keeping accurate assessment, customer experience and risk prevention at the center of the driver licensing process.
