Dubai’s Rental Disputes Center resolved 2,350 rental cases through amicable agreements between January and the end of September, with settlements taking an average of six days and covering a combined value of Dh401 million.
The cases were dealt with by the RDC’s Conciliation and Settlement Department, which provides a formal process for tenants and landlords seeking to resolve a disagreement by mutual consent rather than pursuing a final court ruling.
Under the process, the parties can discuss a structured settlement while their legal rights are protected. When both sides reach an agreement, it is submitted to the supervising judge for approval. Once approved, the settlement carries the force of an enforceable legal instrument.
The reported six-day average applies to disputes in which tenants and landlords reached an amicable settlement through the RDC during the nine-month period. It does not mean that every rental dispute filed in Dubai is concluded within six days.
Judge Abdulqader Mousa Mohammed, chairman of the Rental Disputes Centre, said the figures demonstrated the mechanism’s ability to conclude rental disagreements quickly and effectively. “The performance of the amicable settlement mechanism during the first nine months of this year underscores its capacity to bring rental disputes to swift and effective conclusions,” he said.
He said the system’s results reflected the importance of speed, quality procedures and safeguarding the rights of those involved, alongside specialised expertise and a prompt response to the needs of the parties.
According to the RDC, amicable settlements allow parties in rental relationships to pursue flexible arrangements without entering formal litigation. The centre said such agreements can also help limit the social and economic effects of disputes that remain unresolved for long periods.
The RDC said demand for flexible legal options in Dubai’s rental market has made this approach increasingly important. It added that it would continue refining its procedures, supporting fair access to justice and encouraging amicable settlement as a practical option for tenants and landlords.
