Bahrain’s Labour Market Regulatory Authority has announced improvements to an electronic service that allows domestic workers to check the status and validity of their work permits. The initiative forms part of the kingdom’s wider efforts to simplify government procedures and improve access to official services.

In an announcement published on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, the authority confirmed that it had upgraded the Domestic Worker Permit Information service, enabling eligible users to access relevant permit details through the MyGov application using the eKey 2.0 digital authentication system.

According to the authority, domestic workers can use their identity card number and passport number, together with the selection of their country, to check the current status and validity of their work permits in Bahrain.

One of the most significant improvements is the reduction of the service process to just two steps. The change is intended to make the service more convenient, reduce unnecessary procedures, and help users obtain information more efficiently.

The upgrade also includes improvements to the user interface and overall digital experience, as well as simplified procedures and standardized service information across the government’s various communication and service channels.

Ahmed Ibrahim Al Arabi, Deputy Chief Executive for Services and Business at the Labour Market Regulatory Authority, said the development reflects the authority’s commitment to adopting digital solutions that improve the quality and efficiency of services.

He explained that the updated system is designed to provide a clearer and more convenient experience for users, while supporting the authority’s broader efforts to modernize its operations and make government services easier to access.

The official also emphasized the importance of reducing the time and effort required to obtain information and complete administrative procedures, noting that digital improvements contribute to the overall effectiveness of Bahrain’s labour market services.

For domestic workers, the service offers a practical way to verify whether a work permit remains valid. Access to accurate permit information is particularly important for understanding employment status and identifying situations that may require follow-up with the relevant authorities.

The announcement concerns an improvement to an existing permit information and verification service. It does not announce automatic extensions of work permits, changes to residency requirements, new exemptions from government fees, or a general amendment to domestic worker employment regulations.

The Labour Market Regulatory Authority also highlighted Bahrain’s wider government service modernization programme. More than 1,300 government services have been documented, translated, and published, while approximately 800 have undergone development or process redesign.

These improvements have been informed by feedback from service users, investors, government evaluation mechanisms, and submissions through the national suggestions and complaints platform, Tawasul.

The latest upgrade reflects Bahrain’s continuing commitment to digital transformation and more accessible public services, particularly for citizens, expatriate residents, employers, and workers who need reliable information about employment-related procedures.
