Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior provides a family visit visa service that allows citizens and eligible residents to invite relatives to the country, subject to immigration procedures, supporting documentation and the conditions attached to the visa issued. Applicants are advised to review the latest official instructions before arranging travel.
According to Kuwait’s official government portal, the principal documents include a completed family visit application form, a copy of the visitor’s passport with at least six months of remaining validity, proof of the family relationship and a copy of the sponsor’s Civil ID.
Evidence of kinship is an essential part of the application. The official guidance specifies that sworn declarations issued by embassies are not accepted as substitutes for recognized relationship documents. Applicants should therefore prepare the appropriate birth certificates, marriage certificates or other official records establishing the relevant family connection.
For foreign sponsors employed in the government sector, the government service page lists a recent salary certificate or electronically verifiable employment information. The Ministry of Interior also refers to employment-related documentation for private-sector residents, depending on the applicant’s circumstances and the procedures followed.
Kuwait revised its family visit arrangements in 2025. Interior Ministry officials announced the removal of the previous minimum salary requirement and an expansion of the categories of relatives eligible for family visits. The current government service page does not list a specific minimum salary threshold among its eligibility conditions.
The expanded arrangements were described as covering relatives up to the fourth degree by blood and the third degree by marriage, provided the relationship can be established through acceptable documentation. Applications remain subject to the relevant immigration, security and administrative checks.
The official government portal explains that Kuwaiti citizens may submit the required documents to the immigration department in any governorate. Non-Kuwaiti residents are directed to the relevant immigration department in their own governorate, where they must complete the prescribed application and pay the applicable fees.
The Ministry of Interior also operates the Kuwait Visa platform, which provides information about visit visa categories and their requirements. Applicants should check the submission channels available for their particular circumstances rather than assuming that every family visit application follows exactly the same process.
The government portal lists a fixed family visit fee of KWD 10 per month. However, applicants should confirm the total amount payable when submitting their request, as the applicable charge may depend on the visa category, validity period or related processing arrangements.
The Kuwait Visa platform’s published instructions for single-entry family visits specify a passport validity of at least six months and an entry permit valid for 30 days from issuance. The platform displays a permitted stay of up to 90 days for the listed category, making it important to distinguish the deadline for entering Kuwait from the authorized length of stay.
Interior Ministry officials have also described multiple-entry family visit options with different validity periods and visit conditions. Travellers must therefore rely on the specific visa actually issued to them, including its entry conditions, validity dates and maximum permitted stay, rather than assuming that all family visit visas are identical.
Official instructions prohibit visitors from working while holding a family visit visa. Visitors must also leave Kuwait before their authorized stay expires unless they have completed a lawful procedure permitting them to remain. Accurate application details and valid supporting documents are essential to avoiding delays or rejection.
Family visit visas are an established Ministry of Interior service, not a newly announced measure issued today. Residents and citizens should consult the ministry, Kuwait’s official government portal and the Kuwait Visa platform for the latest requirements, fees and visa categories before applying.
