Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in coordination with Dubai Police General Headquarters, has announced revised maximum speed limits on five major roads across the emirate, effective November 1, 2026. The decision forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety, improve traffic flow and ensure that posted speed limits reflect the operational characteristics of Dubai’s road network. The changes will increase speed limits on three roads and reduce them on two others, with all adjustments applying in both directions along the specified sections.
According to the authority, the maximum speed on Al Asayel Street will increase from 60 to 80 kilometres per hour along the section between Oud Maitha Street and Al Meydan Street. Meanwhile, the speed limit on Al Mustaqbal Street will rise from 60 to 70 kilometres per hour between Sheikh Rashid Street and Al Meydan Street. These adjustments follow technical assessments of road characteristics, traffic volumes and the need to maintain efficient vehicle movement.
The third increase will affect Latifa bint Hamdan Street, where the maximum permitted speed will rise from 60 to 70 kilometres per hour along the section connecting Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. The authority explained that these revisions are part of its regular reviews of speed limits on major road corridors, aimed at balancing efficient mobility with road safety requirements while responding to changing traffic patterns and urban development.
However, two other roads will experience reduced speed limits. On Al Rebat Street, the maximum permitted speed will decrease from 100 to 90 kilometres per hour between Marrakech Street and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. On Sheikh Sabah bin Ahmad Al Sabah Street, the speed limit will fall from 80 to 70 kilometres per hour between 2nd December Street and Khalid bin Al Waleed Street. Both reductions will apply in both directions along the designated road sections.
The RTA confirmed that the revisions follow comprehensive engineering and technical studies conducted over recent months in cooperation with an international consultant. The changes are based on the updated technical specifications of Dubai’s 2026 Speed Management Manual and are aligned with the objectives of the Dubai Traffic Safety Strategy and the performance indicators of the 2025 road safety assessment action plan.
The authority explained that speed limits are determined using several engineering and technical criteria, including traffic volumes, road design speeds, surrounding urban development and the actual speeds maintained by most motorists. Pedestrian movements and the presence of important roadside facilities are also considered to ensure that the revised limits provide an appropriate balance between traffic efficiency and safety for all road users.
The RTA also announced that existing speed limit signs along the affected road sections will be replaced or updated to reflect the revised regulations. Traffic enforcement cameras will be reprogrammed in preparation for implementation on November 1, 2026. Motorists are therefore advised to monitor road signs carefully, particularly on sections where speed limits are being reduced, and comply with the new posted limits to avoid traffic violations and contribute to safer journeys across Dubai.
