Dubai, UAE – Dubai government entities have begun implementing the “Our Flexible Summer” initiative for 2026, launched by the Dubai Government Human Resources Department to enhance employee well-being and promote a healthier work-life balance during the summer months.
The initiative will run from June 29 to September 10, 2026, offering two flexible work models designed to balance operational needs with employees’ personal and family commitments. Under the first model, employees will work seven hours per day from Monday to Thursday and four and a half hours on Friday. The second model allows employees to work eight hours per day from Monday to Thursday in exchange for a full day off on Friday. Government entities may also continue applying approved flexible working hours or remote work arrangements based on operational requirements.
Supporting Employees During the Summer Season
The initiative was introduced in response to employees’ needs during the summer and school holiday period, providing greater flexibility and more time for family activities while maintaining service quality and operational efficiency. Dubai officials say the program reflects the emirate’s ongoing commitment to creating a more employee-centric and future-ready government work environment.
Building on Previous Success
The initiative was first piloted in the summer of 2024 before being expanded across Dubai government entities in 2025 following positive feedback and strong performance outcomes. According to Abdulla Ali Bin Zayed Al Falasi, the initiative has demonstrated that employee well-being and high performance can go hand in hand, supporting institutional success and long-term sustainability.
More Family Time and Better Quality of Life
Beyond workplace benefits, the initiative gives employees additional time to spend with their families during the summer, strengthening family bonds and contributing to social well-being. The program forms part of Dubai’s broader strategy to enhance government employee experiences, improve workplace flexibility, and reinforce the emirate’s position as a global model for human-centered governance.
