Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has issued a strong reminder to all drivers to strictly follow school bus stop arm regulations, emphasizing that student safety is a top priority and that any negligence could put children at serious risk during boarding and drop-off times.
In an official statement, the authority stressed that all road users must immediately comply with the stop arm signal once activated, requiring vehicles to come to a complete stop and remain stationary until all students have safely crossed and reached designated safe zones, and only move once the arm is retracted and warning lights are turned off.
The authority highlighted that violating these rules is considered a serious traffic offense and will result in financial penalties, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen road discipline and reduce incidents involving school transportation.
Regarding stopping procedures, the authority clarified that on non-divided roads without a central median or barrier, vehicles in both directions must stop at a minimum distance of five meters, while on divided roads only vehicles traveling behind the bus are required to stop at the same distance.
The authority concluded by stressing that compliance is not only a legal obligation but also a shared social responsibility aimed at protecting children’s lives and ensuring their safe daily commute, urging drivers to remain vigilant and attentive when approaching school buses.
