The UAE is experiencing a gradual seasonal shift as nighttime and early-morning temperatures begin to ease, while increasing humidity is creating more favourable conditions for fog and mist to develop across parts of the country.
The National Centre of Meteorology forecasts generally fair to partly cloudy conditions, with clouds developing over some eastern areas and humidity increasing overnight and into Monday morning.
The higher humidity could lead to fog or mist forming over some coastal and inland locations, making the forecast particularly important for motorists travelling during the late-night and early-morning hours.
Maximum relative humidity could reach around 90 per cent in several areas, including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah, increasing the potential for fog where other atmospheric conditions are favourable.
High humidity alone does not automatically produce fog. Wind speed, overnight temperatures and atmospheric stability also play an important role in determining whether fog forms and how dense it becomes.
Fog becomes more likely when temperatures fall overnight while moisture remains concentrated near the surface under light winds and stable atmospheric conditions, allowing tiny water droplets to form close to the ground.
These droplets can significantly reduce horizontal visibility, and during particularly dense fog events visibility can fall sharply on affected roads, creating challenging conditions for early-morning motorists.
As the UAE moves further into the cooler season, fog is expected to become an increasingly familiar feature of the early morning, with the seasonal decline in overnight temperatures helping create more favourable conditions.
Similar conditions are forecast from Monday night into Tuesday morning, when humidity is again expected to increase and fog or mist could develop over some coastal and inland areas.
Winds are expected to remain light to moderate overall and may strengthen at times, while conditions in the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea are forecast to remain slight to moderate.
Motorists should continue monitoring official weather and traffic alerts before travelling during fog-prone periods, as the location, density and duration of fog can change depending on actual atmospheric conditions overnight and during the early morning.
