The United Arab Emirates has announced that new travel facilities for its citizens entering Germany have officially taken effect today, Sunday, November 1, 2026. The arrangement allows eligible Emirati travelers to use automated border control gates at participating German airports, potentially reducing the time needed to complete passport checks and immigration formalities.

The UAE Embassy in Berlin, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that Emirati nationals can now benefit from Germany’s EasyPASS Registered Traveller Programme, commonly known as EasyPASS-RTP. The programme provides an automated alternative to conventional passport control procedures for approved travelers who meet the relevant eligibility requirements.
The arrangement follows bilateral cooperation between the UAE and Germany, including an agreement to facilitate the entry of Emirati citizens through the EasyPASS system during the September 2026 state visit of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Germany.
According to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, travelers must be at least 12 years old and hold a valid biometric UAE passport to qualify. They must also complete advance registration at an approved German Federal Police registration office and receive authorization before using the automated gates.
The German Federal Police explains that registration takes place at designated service offices at airports participating in the EasyPASS programme. In general, registration can be completed during the relevant office’s opening hours without a prior appointment, although travelers should check local arrangements before visiting.
During registration, the responsible authorities verify the applicant’s travel document, check the information required for admission to the programme and determine whether the traveler meets the relevant security and eligibility conditions. Approval is required before the automated border control facility becomes available to the individual.
One important benefit is that registration for EasyPASS-RTP is free of charge. The German authorities do not impose a special participation fee for the programme, although travelers must independently satisfy all other applicable travel and immigration requirements.
The EasyPASS system is available at eight major German airports: Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin Brandenburg, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Hanover, Stuttgart and Cologne Bonn. Travelers should consult the German Federal Police website for the locations of registration offices and their opening hours, as registration services may not operate continuously.
Once registered and approved, an eligible traveler can present their biometric passport at an automated gate. The system electronically reads the document and uses a camera-based identity verification process to support the border control checks required for entry or departure, as applicable.
The UAE Embassy in Berlin stated that registration for Emirati participants is valid for one year and may be renewed after the relevant conditions have been checked again. German guidance also links programme participation to the validity of the electronic passport, making it important to review registration requirements when a passport expires or is replaced.
The measure applies to eligible UAE nationals rather than automatically extending to all expatriate residents of the UAE. Holding a UAE residence permit alone does not grant a foreign national access to EasyPASS-RTP under the new arrangement for Emirati citizens.
It is equally important to understand that use of automated gates does not create a new exemption from visa requirements, immigration rules or border security procedures. Travelers must continue to meet the conditions applicable to their nationality, passport and intended stay in Germany.
German border authorities retain the power to carry out additional identity or security checks where necessary. Registration in the programme therefore enables access to a faster procedure but does not guarantee that every crossing will be completed automatically without further inspection.
The arrangement may be particularly useful for Emirati citizens who regularly visit Germany for tourism, business, education, medical treatment or family travel, allowing eligible travelers to complete certain airport border checks more efficiently.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has encouraged citizens to consult its official Travel Advice by Destination service and select Germany to review the full requirements, registration procedures and relevant official guidance before making travel arrangements.
Additional details are available through the UAE MOFA mobile application and the German Federal Police’s official EasyPASS-RTP webpage, which provides information about registration forms, participating locations and service office opening hours.
The new facilities officially began on November 1, 2026, giving approved Emirati travelers access to automated border control gates at participating German airports, provided they meet the age, biometric passport and registration requirements established by the responsible authorities.
