Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Justice provides an electronic power of attorney service through the Najiz platform, enabling eligible citizens and residents to authorize another person to carry out specified legal or administrative procedures on their behalf.
The digital service allows qualifying applicants to complete the process without visiting a notary public office, forming part of the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to simplify judicial and government transactions through secure online channels.
According to the Ministry of Justice’s official service information, the electronic authorization can be issued directly through Najiz, with the applicant receiving a text message confirming its issuance. The individual power of attorney service requires applicants to be Saudi citizens or residents with valid identification, to be over 18 years old, and to possess full legal capacity. Applicants must also have an active Absher account to access the relevant national digital identity services.
To issue an electronic power of attorney, the applicant signs in to the Najiz platform using National Single Sign-On, selects All Electronic Services, and opens the Powers of Attorney and Declarations service package. The applicant then chooses the power of attorney issuance service and starts a new request. The process involves entering the principal’s information, identifying the authorized representative or representatives, selecting the specific powers to be granted, and setting the authorization’s duration before reviewing and approving the request.
The Ministry explains that an electronic power of attorney issued through this service may not exceed one year in duration. The listed service requirements do not include submitting paper documents, while the resulting authorization does not need to be printed, physically stamped, or signed on paper to be valid. Users can also verify whether an electronic power of attorney remains valid through the Ministry’s official verification services, while authorized parties can use available electronic procedures to revoke relevant authorizations.
However, not every applicant qualifies for immediate electronic issuance. People older than 65 who have never previously issued a power of attorney must complete their first authorization through the virtual notary service or approved notaries before using the direct online process for subsequent requests. Certain identity categories and legal representative capacities also require applicants to submit a registration request and complete the authorization through the virtual notary service rather than relying on automatic issuance.
The Ministry’s guidance highlights the importance of carefully reviewing the identity of the appointed representative, the precise powers being granted, and the authorization’s validity period. Because a power of attorney can grant another person significant legal authority, applicants should select only the powers needed for their intended transaction and verify all details before approval. Citizens and residents can access the service through the official Najiz platform and follow the instructions displayed for their individual circumstances.
