Daniel Suárez has been mathematically eliminated from contention for the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series championship after a crash-filled YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, where he finished 18th in the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet.
Suárez started Sunday’s race from 13th place while seeking to improve his standing in the Cup Series Chase. He remained on track through the early stages, but his race was affected by the first major crash on Lap 132.
The 12-car incident began after Ryan Blaney lost momentum in the outside lane. Suárez was among the drivers caught up in the accident, and the damage as well as the resulting loss of track position made the remainder of his race more difficult.
His afternoon was further complicated when he was listed among the drivers involved in another major accident on Lap 183. Despite being involved in both incidents, Suárez was able to continue and completed 188 of the race’s 189 laps.
The 18th-place result brought him 19 points. He dropped one position to 14th in the Chase standings with 2,201 points, 240 behind championship leader Kyle Larson.
With the title no longer within reach mathematically, Suárez will turn his attention to ending the season strongly in the remaining races at Martinsville and Homestead-Miami.
