A first-round Illinois High School Association Class 6A playoff game between Sarah E. Goode STEM Academy and Quincy Senior High School produced 172 combined points with 3:42 still remaining, setting a record for total scoring in an IHSA game.
The No. 8-seeded Goode and No. 9-seeded Quincy teams met on the eve of Halloween in a matchup marked by sustained scoring from both offenses. The game began at 3 p.m. CT at Goode High School, but was moved to Chicago Englewood's field because the original venue did not have lights.
The 88 points scored by one team placed the performance second on the IHSA's list of highest individual team totals in a playoff game. IHSA records list Peoria High School's 96 points in a 96-40 second-round win over Decatur Eisenhower on Nov. 4 as the highest such total.
The 172 points combined by Goode and Quincy surpassed the previous overall single-game mark of 166. That record had stood since Oct. 29, 2021, when Springfield High School defeated Rock Island High School 94-72.
With 3:42 left on the clock, either side still had an opportunity to add to its total and potentially challenge the individual team scoring record.
