Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior, through the General Directorate of Traffic, provides citizens and residents with electronic services to check traffic violations registered against vehicles and pay eligible fines through the Kingdom’s official government portal.
The service allows motorists to manage routine traffic obligations without visiting a traffic department when the relevant transactions can be completed online. However, the authorities distinguish between violations eligible for direct payment and cases requiring additional procedures, including those referred to the courts.
According to the official service instructions, users can retrieve traffic violations using either vehicle information or driver details. Searching by vehicle displays violations recorded against that vehicle, even when a driver other than the registered owner committed them. Searching by driver, on the other hand, displays violations committed by the user involving vehicles under their ownership. This distinction is especially important for vehicle owners who allow family members or other authorized individuals to drive their cars and need to review the full record.
To access the service, applicants visit Bahrain’s national government portal, open the General Directorate of Traffic services and select Payment of Traffic Contraventions. They then choose the relevant identification type, enter the identification number and provide the vehicle’s registration number and category. After continuing, the system displays the available violation details, allowing users to select eligible fines for payment, provide contact information and complete the transaction using a debit or credit card. The service is also accessible through the government’s MyGov application, which has incorporated services previously provided by the dedicated eTraffic application.
The authorities emphasize that violations referred to the courts are handled differently from ordinary traffic fines. Once a court verdict has been issued, eligible payments may be completed using the Payment of Criminal Orders service available through the national government portal, or motorists may visit the General Directorate of Traffic to complete the settlement. The official instructions also indicate that outstanding traffic violations must be resolved before completing driving license or vehicle registration renewals. When court-referred violations are involved, motorists may need to finalize their settlement with the traffic authorities before proceeding with online renewal.
The government’s service directory states that fines within the traffic violation settlement service range from BHD 5 to BHD 300, depending on the type of violation. These amounts represent applicable penalties rather than a uniform administrative charge for using the electronic service. The published service information indicates a processing period of one working day and does not require supporting documents for ordinary electronic payment. However, challenging a violation follows a different procedure, requiring the concerned driver or vehicle owner to attend the Traffic Contraventions Section with a valid driving license and vehicle ownership certificate.
Citizens and residents are therefore encouraged to monitor their traffic records through official government channels and confirm that outstanding matters have been settled before applying to renew their driving licenses or vehicle registrations. Motorists should distinguish direct online payments from court-related cases and formal objections, as each requires a different process. The services described are existing government procedures rather than newly introduced legislation, penalties or administrative decisions.
