King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the King of Saudi Arabia, has sent a written invitation to Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman to participate in the second Gulf Cooperation Council-European Union summit, scheduled to be hosted by Saudi Arabia in October 2026.

The invitation comes as part of diplomatic efforts to strengthen cooperation between Gulf countries and the European Union.

The message was delivered by Ibrahim bin Saad bin Bishan, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Oman, during a meeting with Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Harthy, Oman’s Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, on Sunday, October 11, 2026, according to Saudi newspaper Ajel.

The invitation forms part of the diplomatic preparations for the second GCC-EU summit. The meeting provides an opportunity for Gulf countries and European Union representatives to strengthen communication, exchange views, and discuss issues of mutual interest.

GCC-EU summits are an important platform for high-level dialogue between the two regional groupings. Such meetings offer opportunities to explore ways to develop cooperation, coordinate positions, and address shared priorities through diplomatic engagement.

Saudi Arabia continues its preparations to host the summit, with the participation of Gulf leaders forming an important part of the event’s diplomatic arrangements. The invitation to Sultan Haitham reflects the Kingdom’s efforts to engage Oman in the upcoming Gulf-European meeting.
