Nakheel has appointed Mar Marine & Building Contracting L.L.C. to carry out marine and beach works on Island B at Dubai Islands, including an upgrade of 3km of the island’s western shoreline and the creation of 320 metres of beach frontage near Bay Villas. The work is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2027.

The contract covers the construction of new breakwaters, removal of existing protective rock revetments and formation of the new beach area. Mar Marine will also undertake refurbishment and remedial work at several existing beaches along the western side of Island B.

According to Nakheel, the project is intended to link the newly created beach with the upgraded existing coastal stretches, advancing the waterfront environment around the Bay Villas development.

Works alongside Bay Villas development

Bay Villas is planned as a community of 636 villas and townhouses on Island B. Nakheel awarded Fibrex Contracting L.L.C. a Dh2.6 billion construction contract for the residential development last August.

The marine and beach package is progressing alongside that construction work. It follows a Dh527 million contract awarded to Al Nasr Contracting Company in April 2026 for primary infrastructure and utilities on Island B.

Khalid Al Malik, chief executive of Dubai Holding Real Estate, of which Nakheel is a member, said the works would establish a “high-quality coastal environment that develops in step with the wider masterplan.”

Nabil Abou Rjaili, general manager of Mar Marine, said the scheme brings together new breakwaters and beach formation with improvements to established coastal areas. He said the contractor would use its marine engineering experience to coordinate the work as the island’s waterfront enters its next stage.

Dubai Islands masterplan

Dubai Islands comprises five artificial islands extending across 18.6km and is connected to the historic Deira coastline. The waterfront destination’s masterplan is expected to house more than 230,000 residents in about 62,000 homes, along with more than 11,000 hotel keys and over 4,000 branded residences.
