A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Mindanao in the Philippines on Thursday, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). The agency said the tremor occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres, or 6.21 miles.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said in an advisory that it did not expect the earthquake to cause significant damage. However, the agency said aftershocks were likely following the tremor.

The quake comes after a far stronger magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit Mindanao in June. That earthquake, described in the source material as the Philippines' strongest tremor in nearly five decades, displaced thousands of people.

Several people were killed and more than 450 others were injured in the June earthquake. The casualties were linked to collapsed structures and landslides in Sarangani Province and General Santos City.
