Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has published the requirements and procedures for renewing family dependent residence permits under Article 22 of the executive regulations governing foreign nationals’ residency. The service is particularly relevant to expatriate families seeking to maintain lawful residence for their eligible dependents.

According to the ministry and Kuwait’s official government portal, Article 22 covers several immigration services, including first-time family residence issuance, permit renewal, cancellation, and certain transfers from family sponsorship to private-sector employment residency under Article 18.

For family residence renewal, the authorities specify seven required documents. These include a completed residence application signed by the sponsor, two recent photographs with a blue background measuring 4 by 6 centimeters, a copy of the sponsor’s Civil ID, the dependent’s original passport, and a valid health insurance certificate.

Additional documentation applies in specific family circumstances. Children older than 20 must provide a recent authenticated educational certificate. Where the parents remain married, a copy of the mother’s valid residence permit is also required when renewing a child’s dependent residency.

Applications may be submitted through the residence services available in Kuwait’s Sahel government application or through the competent government department in the relevant governorate. Applicants should prepare the necessary documents, complete the official application and pay the applicable government fees.

The ministry distinguishes between first-time residence applications and renewals. Initial applications may require additional supporting documents, including the original entry visa, medical fitness confirmation, criminal record certificates and evidence of the family relationship, depending on the applicant’s circumstances.

Expatriate residents are encouraged to verify passport validity, health insurance coverage, the sponsor’s residency status and the accuracy of all family information before applying. They should also confirm the current fees through official government channels rather than relying on unverified announcements or social media claims.

The service forms part of Kuwait’s administrative framework for family residency, helping eligible expatriate households complete immigration procedures while remaining compliant with applicable laws and regulations. Residents should regularly consult official ministry information to avoid delays or residency violations.
