In a significant development, the Saudi Arabian Cabinet, under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz, held a session that marked the launch of several strategic announcements. Chief among these was the initiation of a multinational maritime defense coalition, along with issuing stern condemnations of escalating Iranian activities.
The Cabinet expressed its approval for the operational commencement of the "Multinational Maritime Defense Alliance," an initiative spearheaded by Saudi Arabia. Following the completion of all organizational and planning prerequisites, the alliance is now poised to achieve full operational readiness. Its primary mission is to fortify collective maritime security and ensure safe passage through crucial sea routes and straits, thereby safeguarding the continuity of international trade and global supply chains from potential threats.
In a related context, the Saudi Cabinet reiterated its firm opposition to Iran's repeated assaults on commercial ships and tankers. These attacks were labeled as a "dangerous escalation" that directly endangers maritime navigation safety and flagrantly violates international laws and norms. The cabinet also deemed these actions as blatant challenges to United Nations Security Council resolutions that uphold navigational rights and freedoms for commercial vessels, particularly in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. It condemned any actions or threats that might disrupt these rights or destabilize regional stability.
On another note concerning bilateral relations, the cabinet appreciated the establishment of the "Saudi-Sudanese Coordination Council." This council is seen as a natural extension of both nations' commitment to supporting and aligning their shared positions. This new institutional framework aims to elevate cooperation and integration levels between Riyadh and Khartoum. Its goal is to transform shared aspirations into tangible initiatives and projects that serve both countries' strategic interests and meet their people's aspirations.
