The U.S. Department of Justice, through Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon, has announced plans to deploy an unprecedented number of observers for the upcoming midterm congressional elections. A total of one thousand monitors will be assigned to ensure the integrity and smooth operation of the electoral process.
These critical midterm elections are scheduled to take place on November 3rd. The deployment of such a large contingent of observers is being described as a record-setting initiative by the Department.
Dhillon noted that while some state authorities have expressed reservations about this federal oversight, the Department of Justice remains hopeful for cooperation from state administrations. The primary objective of these observers will be to deter any fraudulent activities during voting and to prevent undocumented immigrants from accessing polling stations.
In a statement made in July, President Donald Trump voiced his concerns over potential electoral fraud by the Democratic Party in the upcoming elections. He suggested that there might be attempts to allow individuals without U.S. citizenship to vote, particularly in states under Democratic control.
The midterm elections set for November will see a third of the United States Senate and the entire House of Representatives up for re-election. Currently, both chambers of Congress are under Republican control.
This move by the Justice Department underscores the heightened scrutiny and importance placed on ensuring fair electoral practices in light of previous allegations and ongoing political tensions.
