In a recent announcement, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin revealed that Russia has started the implementation of agreements to construct a small-scale nuclear power plant in Myanmar. This development marks a significant step in the collaboration between the two nations.
During discussions with Myanmar's leader, Min Aung Hlaing, who is currently visiting Russia, Mishustin expressed confidence in the project's potential to strengthen cooperation across various sectors. He noted, "We have initiated the agreements for building a small nuclear plant in Myanmar. I am confident that this initiative will significantly advance our collaboration in related fields, including both fundamental and applied scientific research. It will also serve as a new symbol of Russian-Myanmar friendship."
Mishustin highlighted the promising opportunities for enhancing trade, economic ties, and investment between Russia and Myanmar. He emphasized the importance of creating favorable conditions for joint projects in diverse sectors such as industry, energy, transportation infrastructure, and the agro-industrial complex.
The Russian Prime Minister also proposed expanding cooperation in advanced technology fields. "We are prepared to share our latest advancements with our partners in Myanmar," he stated, referencing areas like digital economy development, autonomous electronic systems, and artificial intelligence applications.
Mishustin pointed out that the joint governmental committee overseeing bilateral cooperation is headed on the Russian side by Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov. This committee plays a crucial role in addressing practical issues and ensuring smooth collaboration with Myanmar.
