Saudi Arabia’s National Center for Meteorology has issued red weather alerts for several locations across the Makkah Region on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, as severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall continue to affect parts of the area.
The alerts warn of potentially dangerous conditions including strong winds, severely reduced or zero horizontal visibility, hail, flash flooding and frequent thunderstorms. These conditions may create significant risks for drivers and residents in exposed areas, particularly on highways and low-lying roads.
Areas covered by the red alerts include Adham, Maysan and parts of Al Lith, including Bani Yazid, Jadhm and Yalamlam. Al Ardiyat and Taif have also been listed among locations affected by heavy rain alerts issued through the National Center for Meteorology’s early warning system.
According to the official warning details, several alerts began at around noon on Tuesday and are scheduled to remain in effect until 9 p.m. local time. The timing and severity may vary between locations depending on the movement and intensity of the storm cells.
The red alert level indicates a high potential for serious weather impacts, making official updates particularly important for motorists, residents and travellers passing through the affected parts of the Makkah Region during the warning period.
Authorities are especially concerned about the possibility of rapidly flowing floodwater in valleys and low-lying areas, while hail and intense rainfall may also cause sudden deterioration in road conditions and visibility.
Some of the warnings also cover open areas and major highways, increasing the need for extra caution while driving. Travellers are advised to avoid flooded roads, valleys and locations where water is accumulating and to follow instructions issued by the relevant Saudi authorities.
The National Center for Meteorology continues to update its early warning system as weather conditions develop. Residents and travellers in the affected areas should therefore monitor official alerts closely throughout the evening, as warnings may be extended, upgraded or modified depending on the latest weather observations.
