Kuwait Meteorological Department expects the country to experience very hot conditions today, Thursday, accompanied by strong and active winds that may raise dust and reduce horizontal visibility in several areas. Weather conditions are expected to improve gradually tomorrow, Friday, as wind speeds begin to decline during the early hours.

Acting Director of the department Dharar Al Ali said weather maps and numerical models indicate that Kuwait will be affected by an extension of the seasonal Indian monsoon low-pressure system. The system is expected to bring a very hot and dry air mass, along with moderate to active northwesterly winds that may exceed 50 kilometres per hour at times.

Al Ali explained that the active winds are expected to raise sand and dust, potentially reducing horizontal visibility to less than 1,000 metres in some areas, particularly exposed locations. The strong winds may also lead to higher sea waves, making caution necessary for people travelling or carrying out activities in exposed areas.

The general weather forecast indicates very hot conditions during the daytime, with northerly winds raising dust, while nighttime conditions are expected to remain hot to relatively warm. Dust is expected to gradually settle during the evening, while wind speeds are forecast to decrease progressively from the early hours of Friday.

Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 46°C and 48°C, while minimum temperatures are forecast to range between 35°C and 37°C. The Meteorological Department urged people with asthma, allergies and chronic illnesses, as well as children and older adults, to exercise caution when going outdoors because of the combination of extreme heat and dust and to use appropriate protective masks when necessary.
