The British Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has issued a warning following a severe incident that unfolded approximately 136 nautical miles east of Mukalla, Yemen.
According to the UKMTO, a distress signal was sent from an oil tanker navigating westward in the Gulf of Aden after it encountered harassment from an unauthorized vessel. This prompted an urgent call for assistance.
A subsequent update to the alert confirmed that six armed individuals had managed to board the tanker. They now have full control over the vessel and are directing it towards Somali shores.
The UKMTO has emphasized that relevant authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. They have urged all ships passing through this area to exercise extreme caution, adhere strictly to safety protocols, and immediately report any suspicious activities.
