His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain, chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting at Gudaibiya Palace on Monday, October 12, 2026. The meeting covered several national priorities, including employment indicators, government services, economic legislation, and sustainable development.
The Cabinet reaffirmed the government’s commitment to translating royal directives into practical plans, programmes, and initiatives. It also highlighted the importance of cooperation with the legislative authority in pursuing national priorities. Discussions included updating economic legislation, improving Bahrain’s investment environment, strengthening competitiveness, expanding the knowledge-based economy, supporting energy sustainability, and protecting the environment.
One of the key items was a review of labour market indicators for the third quarter of 2026. The figures were considered within the framework of Bahrain’s Labour Market Plan for 2023–2026 and agreements reached during discussions on the state budget for the 2025–2026 fiscal years. By the end of the third quarter, 72% of the annual target of employing 25,000 Bahrainis had been achieved. The Cabinet also reported that 71% of the annual target of training 15,000 Bahrainis had been completed.
These figures provide an indication of progress towards the government’s annual employment and training objectives. However, they do not mean that the full annual targets have been reached. Further updates will be needed to establish the final results and assess progress towards the end-of-year objectives.
The Cabinet also reviewed and approved several matters, including a draft decision concerning municipal councils, reports submitted by the Education and Training Quality Authority, and the government’s responses to proposals from the Council of Representatives. It also considered the latest developments in improving government services, reflecting continued attention to the quality and efficiency of public administration.
In addition, the meeting reviewed outcomes from the second Innovation in the Social Housing Sector Conference and Exhibition, including announced housing projects and signed agreements and memorandums of understanding. Ministers also presented reports on Bahrain’s participation in regional and international meetings covering labour, energy, food security, tourism, and social responsibility.
The meeting reflects the broad range of priorities being addressed by Bahrain’s government, from employment and public services to housing and regional cooperation. The implementation details and subsequent progress of individual initiatives will depend on further official announcements from the relevant authorities.
