In a significant financial commitment, Norway has announced plans to provide additional support to Ukraine amounting to 85 billion Norwegian kroner, equivalent to $9.2 billion, in the fiscal year 2027. This pledge mirrors the financial assistance offered by Norway in 2026.
The Norwegian government, in a statement released on Sunday, emphasized that the funding will be allocated towards both military and humanitarian efforts. The statement highlighted that aiding Ukraine's reconstruction is not merely a form of assistance but an investment in Europe's security.
Conversely, Russia views the continued supply of weapons to Ukraine as an obstacle to peaceful resolution efforts. Moscow has expressed concerns that such actions lead to increased involvement of NATO countries in the ongoing conflict, describing it as "playing with fire."
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has issued warnings that any shipments of weapons destined for Ukraine will be considered legitimate targets by Russian forces. He asserted that Moscow would not overlook military supplies that could threaten its security or alter the balance of power in the conflict area.
