Egypt has suspended truck transit to Sudan through the Qustul Land Port after two Egyptian drivers were killed and another was injured in a shooting at a market south of Khartoum, according to RT Arabic.
The suspension is indefinite and applies to trucks travelling toward Qustul for onward passage by ferry to the Sudanese side. The port's management, which operates under the Ministry of Transport's General Authority for Land and Dry Ports, instructed that all such freight vehicles be stopped until further notice.
The directive cited security developments in Sudan's Northern State. Passenger movement has not been included in the measure: buses, private vehicles, microbuses and individual travellers may continue crossing through the port.
Egypt had already imposed restrictions on commercial road transport inside Sudan. The Internal and International Land Transport Regulatory Authority had barred Egyptian trucks from entering areas affected by conflict, allowing freight movements only to Wadi Halfa, Argeen and Dongola.
The authority instructed drivers to comply with the rules governing transport inside Sudan, remain highly cautious and avoid travelling beyond the areas designated for commercial transport. Cargo unloading is to be limited to locations considered safe in Sudan's Northern State.
Those restrictions were issued under Ministry of Transport directives dated May 11, 2025, requiring transport operators to avoid conflict zones. The latest halt at Qustul follows the shooting south of the Sudanese capital, in which two Egyptian drivers were killed and a third was wounded.
