Yami Gautam’s new Hindi horror-comedy Nayyi Navelli is screening at select cinemas across the UAE. Gautam plays Mohini, a newly married woman whose arrival at her husband’s family home prompts growing suspicions that she may be concealing a supernatural secret.
Released on October 16, the film is directed by Balaji Mohan and is set around Mohini’s move into her husband’s family home in Meerut. At first, her presence appears to bring happiness to the household as she settles into married life.
That calm is disrupted when Mohini’s brother-in-law begins to believe she could be a witch. His suspicions put him at odds with the rest of the family, who do not understand why he is convinced that something is wrong.
The plot follows his efforts to determine whether Mohini is truly hiding something, while the family attempts to make sense of the increasingly uneasy situation. The tension between the brothers is central to the story: Raja Awasthi sees Mohini as his ideal wife, but his younger brother remains doubtful about her.
Adinath Kothare plays Raja Awasthi, Mohini’s husband. Sunita Rajwar, Mita Vashisht, Sonal Jha and Sushmita Mukherjee also feature in the cast.
Nayyi Navelli combines family drama and comedy with a supernatural mystery centred on the question of Mohini’s identity. It is Gautam’s first role in a horror-comedy. Her previous film credits include Vicky Donor, Uri: The Surgical Strike, A Thursday and Article 370.
The film is currently playing in Hindi at selected UAE locations operated by VOX, Reel Cinemas and Cine Royal.
