With deep sorrow and full submission to God’s will, the Amiri Diwan of Qatar announced the passing of His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at the age of 74, marking the end of an era defined by leadership and transformative national achievements.

The official statement began with verses from the Holy Quran, reflecting faith and acceptance of divine decree, highlighting the profound emotional impact of this loss on the Qatari people and the broader Arab and Islamic worlds.

The Amiri Diwan expressed its heartfelt condolences, praying that the late leader be granted eternal mercy and a place among the righteous, in recognition of his enduring contributions to Qatar’s development and his influential role regionally and internationally.

Funeral prayers are scheduled to take place after Maghrib prayer on Sunday at Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque in Doha, followed by burial at Lusail Cemetery, in a solemn ceremony expected to draw wide official and public attendance.

A four-day national mourning period has been declared across Qatar starting Sunday, with government offices and public institutions closed beginning Monday, July 13, and work resuming on Sunday, July 19, while flags will be flown at half-mast nationwide throughout the mourning period.
