The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) has officially announced the appointment of Greek tactician Georgios Donis as the new Head Coach of the Saudi National Team.

Donis succeeds Frenchman Hervé Renard, following the mutual termination of the former coach's contract.

The agreement, which extends through July 2027, marks a strategic move by the Federation to solidify the technical staff as the "Green Falcons" finalize their preparations for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.

A Familiar Face with Tactical Depth

Donis brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the local football landscape to the role. His extensive resume in the Saudi Pro League—having previously managed Al-Hilal, Al-Wehda, Al-Fateh, and most recently, Al-Khaleej—is expected to be a significant asset in navigating the squad's upcoming challenges. His European pedigree, highlighted by tenures at prominent clubs such as AEK Athens and PAOK, further complements his tactical profile.

Throughout his career, the Greek manager has secured multiple honors, including domestic league and cup titles in Cyprus, alongside various championship triumphs during his successful stints in Saudi Arabia.

Setting Sights on the World Cup

The appointment comes at a critical juncture for the national team. With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, the focus now shifts to the final stages of the preparation program. SAFF is expected to host an official press conference in Riyadh shortly to introduce Donis and his coaching staff, ahead of the team's departure for a high-intensity training camp in the United States.

The Federation expressed its confidence that Donis’s appointment will provide the necessary leadership to elevate the team’s performance on the global stage, with the primary objective of delivering a commendable and historic campaign in the upcoming World Cup.
