The UAE Federal Traffic Council at the Ministry of Interior has confirmed that digital driving licenses and vehicle registration cards are now fully recognized as official substitutes for printed documents, meaning drivers are no longer required to carry physical copies while driving, marking a major milestone in the country’s digital transformation journey.
Authorities clarified that drivers must ensure their digital documents are available through approved smart applications provided by the Ministry of Interior and licensing authorities, allowing easy access and instant verification whenever required, enhancing both convenience and compliance.
The Ministry of Interior has been a pioneer in adopting advanced digital services, offering a wide range of features through its MOIUAE application, including traffic fine payments and instant access to driving license and vehicle ownership data, eliminating the need for paperwork and improving overall user experience.
Abu Dhabi Police also confirmed that electronic versions of driving licenses and vehicle registrations accessible via the TAMM platform serve as complete replacements for printed copies, enabling users to securely access all traffic-related data through a unified digital system.
Experts emphasized that this shift significantly reduces violations caused by forgetting physical documents, while calling for further legal alignment to formally recognize digital copies as definitive legal proof, as strict penalties remain in place for driving without a valid license or providing false information, reinforcing road safety and regulatory compliance.
