Kuwait’s official gazette “Kuwait Alyawm” has published a series of high-impact decrees and cabinet decisions ordering the revocation of Kuwaiti citizenship from 316 individuals, marking a significant development in the country’s ongoing efforts to regulate and audit citizenship records under strict legal frameworks.

The measures include five official decrees alongside two cabinet resolutions, with Decree No 72 of 2026 ordering the withdrawal of citizenship from 288 individuals, as well as anyone who acquired it through dependency, highlighting the broad legal scope of the action.

Decree No 73 of 2026 further stipulates the revocation of citizenship certificates from five individuals, extending the decision to those who derived nationality from them, based on Article 21 bis A of the Kuwaiti Nationality Law, confirming a firm legal basis for enforcement.

Additional decrees numbered 74, 75, and 78 of 2026 addressed smaller individual cases, including revoking citizenship and certificates from a limited number of persons, while maintaining the same legal principle of extending revocation to dependents under amended legal provisions.

At the cabinet level, Resolution No 84 of 2026 ordered the withdrawal of citizenship certificates from 11 individuals, while Resolution No 125 of 2026 targeted six more, including their dependents, reinforcing the government’s continued commitment to tightening citizenship controls and ensuring legal compliance across all related cases.
