Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, said the projects will significantly expand the Dubai Metro network, increasing its total length from the current 90 kilometres to 162 kilometres.
The Blue Line is scheduled for completion in 2029, while the Gold Line is expected to be completed in 2032, representing an increase of approximately 80% in the overall metro network length.
Al Tayer made the announcement during a press conference to unveil the first edition of RailX Dubai 2027, the Dubai International Rail Conference and Exhibition, which will take place from 31 May to 2 June 2027 at Dubai World Trade Centre.
The event is expected to bring together more than 5,000 participants, 60 exhibitors and 70 speakers, under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council.
Al Tayer highlighted the strategic importance of railway networks and modern mobility systems in driving economic growth, supporting urban development, connecting communities and markets, and enhancing sustainability and quality of life.
He noted that the Dubai Metro accounts for 40% of all public transport users in the emirate and has carried nearly 3 billion passengers since it began operations on 9 September 2009.
The upcoming Gold Line is expected to connect key areas of Dubai through 18 stations covering 15 strategic locations, including Business Bay, Mohammed Bin Rashid City, Meydan, Jumeirah Village Circle and Jumeirah Golf Estates.
The line will also serve around 55 development projects across the emirate, further strengthening Dubai’s integrated transport network and supporting its vision for smart mobility and sustainable urban development.
