The Ministry of Defense announced that the national tankers “Mombasa” and “Al Bahiyah” were targeted by two Iranian cruise missiles while transiting the southern corridor of the Strait of Hormuz within Omani territorial waters.
The attack resulted in the death of one crew member aboard the tanker “Mombasa,” an Indian national, and left eight others injured, including four in critical condition, with victims comprising six Indian nationals and two Ukrainians.
According to the ministry, the strike caused material damage to both vessels due to fires that broke out onboard, noting that emergency response teams successfully contained the fires and prevented further escalation.
The Ministry of Defense strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a serious violation and a clear breach of international law, warning that it poses a direct threat to regional security and vital maritime routes.
The ministry emphasized that the state reserves its full right to respond to this escalation, affirming its readiness to address any threats, while urging the public to rely solely on official sources and avoid spreading unverified information.
