Dubai Municipality has successfully completed a groundbreaking initiative in the Middle East, employing Mobile Mapping technology to survey its waterways. Utilizing the Leica TRK device mounted on a specially designed boat, this project marks a significant advancement in the region.

This achievement enriches Dubai's already advanced geospatial system, which ranks among the most efficient globally. By providing precise and updated spatial data, the initiative supports vital sectors and enhances urban asset management and sustainable planning.

The survey involved detailed mapping of the Dubai Water Canal in the Al Jaddaf area. High-resolution data was collected, leading to the creation of advanced 3D models. This was accomplished in collaboration with expert partners, offering new opportunities to enhance infrastructure management and urban project development according to top international standards.

Engineer Maitha Al Nuaimi, Director of the Geographic Information Systems Center at Dubai Municipality, stated that this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to bolster Dubai's digital infrastructure. The development of an integrated geographic database supports the emirate's digital twin project, enabling government entities to make quick and accurate decisions based on reliable data, reinforcing Dubai's status as a leading smart city.

The municipality is continuing its surveying efforts across all waterways within the emirate. This is being done in coordination with relevant authorities and sets the stage for operational expansion. The aim is to implement project outcomes on a broader scale, enhancing smart system integration and improving city management efficiency and sustainability.
