The Australian federal government has officially announced the opening date for Western Sydney International Airport (Nancy Baird Walton). Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated that the project cost billions of dollars and that the airport will begin receiving its first flights on October 25, 2026.

The Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure Catherine King explained that this massive project is the culmination of 15 years of meticulous planning and extensive structural testing by the government, positioning Western Sydney as a leading global air transport hub.

Consequently, federal transport authorities highlighted that the airport will operate entirely curfew-free, delivering 24/7 domestic, international, and air freight services. Jetstar has been locked in to operate the historic maiden passenger flight, an Airbus A320 departing to the Gold Coast at 11:00 AM on opening day. While passenger operations take off in October, the facility will actually launch its dedicated cargo runway earlier on July 26, 2026, shifting critical freight supply chains into high gear.
