The UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has inaugurated the Emirates Monitoring Center, a strategic initiative designed to enhance the resilience and reliability of the unified national electricity grid through a real-time monitoring platform connecting the country's major electricity providers.

The platform links the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA), and Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE).The launch forms part of the ministry's efforts to build a more integrated and efficient national power system that supports energy security, ensures sustainable electricity supplies, and keeps pace with growing demand in line with the UAE Energy Strategy 2050.The center is powered by Siemens' Spectrum Power SCADA V23 Q4, one of the world's most advanced monitoring and control systems, providing real-time visibility across the national electricity network while improving operational monitoring, control, and decision-making.It enables continuous monitoring of the UAE's national power grid, which has a total installed generation capacity of around 48 GW, tracking key operational indicators including electricity load, frequency, voltage, and power exchange, while ensuring seamless operational data exchange through the Emirates National Grid (ENG).Engineer Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, said the center marks a significant milestone in advancing the UAE's electricity sector and reflects the ministry's commitment to leveraging advanced digital technologies to improve grid efficiency, reliability, and future readiness. He added that the center will strengthen energy infrastructure resilience, enhance the country's ability to predict and manage operational challenges, and support the adoption of artificial intelligence for scenario planning, predictive analytics, and power system modeling to enable smarter and more proactive decision-making.Helmut von Struve, CEO of Siemens in the UAE and the Middle East, said the project represents a major achievement for the country's energy sector by introducing, for the first time, a unified national platform capable of monitoring the electricity grid in real time across all emirates. He added that the project was completed within a record timeframe using Siemens' latest energy management technologies and was designed to support renewable energy integration, expand power interconnection projects, and build a smarter, more resilient, and sustainable national electricity network.
