ABU DHABI: Authorities have issued a stern warning to all motorists across the country as the new academic year commences, emphasizing strict compliance with safety regulations surrounding school buses. Officials announced that deterrent penalties, including a AED 1,000 fine and 10 black points, will be imposed on drivers who fail to adhere to specific traffic instructions designed to safeguard students.

The authorities clarified that these measures are part of the "Back to School" safety campaign, aimed at ensuring a secure environment for students. It was underscored that coming to a complete stop when the "Stop" sign arm is deployed on school buses is a mandatory legal requirement, applicable in both directions on undivided roads to ensure children's safety during boarding and disembarking.

In line with intensified monitoring, officials noted that drivers must maintain a minimum safety distance of five meters from the bus. They further confirmed that smart systems and automated cameras installed on buses will strictly monitor and record violations, requiring motorists to exercise the utmost caution, particularly in residential areas and school zones.

The statement concluded by reaffirming that student safety is a "red line" in the UAE's traffic safety framework. The public is urged to fully cooperate and comply with these regulations to enhance road safety and avoid rigorous penalties aimed primarily at protecting lives and ensuring an organized start to the school term.
