Schools across the United Arab Emirates are stepping up awareness campaigns ahead of the new academic year, placing school discipline at the heart of the back-to-school preparations. The updated guidance covers attendance, behaviour, uniforms, personal appearance, electronic devices, food and communication between families and schools.
School administrations say a successful start goes beyond textbooks and timetables. Students are expected to follow clear routines from the moment they arrive at school until they leave, helping create a safe, structured environment and keeping classrooms focused throughout the day.
Punctuality Comes First:
Students are being reminded to arrive before the morning assembly and follow the approved school rules from the start of the day. Respectful behaviour towards classmates, teachers and administrative staff is also being highlighted as a key part of the school experience.
Restrictions on Phones and Devices:
Several schools have introduced restrictions on bringing mobile phones, certain tablets and cameras onto campus. The measures are designed to reduce distractions, protect privacy and keep students focused during lessons and school activities.
Uniform and Appearance Rules:
School uniforms and personal appearance are also receiving particular attention. Students must wear the approved uniform for their grade or educational stage and follow each school's standards for general appearance and personal cleanliness.
Healthy Food Requirements:
Schools are also encouraging students to bring healthier meals and avoid unsuitable food choices. Soft drinks and energy drinks are prohibited under the stated school guidelines, while chewing gum is also banned on campus.
Controlled Dismissal Procedures:
Leaving school during the academic day will remain subject to official procedures, with parental presence and required identification where applicable. Some schools have also designated specific gates for dismissal and are asking parents to follow collection times to reduce congestion and improve safety around school entrances.
The measures reflect a stronger focus on school-wide discipline in the UAE, with schools and families expected to work together to maintain punctuality, appropriate behaviour, uniform standards, safe dismissal procedures and a positive learning environment.
