The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned the Iranian attack on the Saudi tanker “Sidr” while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, an incident that resulted in the deaths of several crew members and raised fresh concerns over maritime security.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attack poses a serious threat to the safety and security of international navigation, describing it as a dangerous escalation targeting one of the world’s most vital maritime routes for global trade and energy supplies.

The UAE expressed full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed its support for measures aimed at protecting Saudi vessels, national interests and the freedom of navigation in regional and international waters.

The ministry also stressed that the attack constitutes a serious violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which emphasizes the protection of freedom of navigation and rejects attacks on commercial vessels or disruption of international maritime routes.

The UAE further warned that targeting commercial shipping or using the Strait of Hormuz as a means of economic pressure is unacceptable, stressing that such actions pose a direct threat to regional stability, global energy security and international trade.
