Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Roads has introduced a new digital service for issuing permits to double-trailer trucks operating on roads outside urban areas, as part of efforts to improve freight transportation, road safety and service efficiency.

The new service allows eligible companies to submit permit applications online. Requests are then subject to technical review to verify compliance with the required conditions, with approved applicants notified so they can print their permits.

The authority stressed that companies must secure the required permit before transporting goods on designated routes, in line with Saudi regulations governing freight transportation and the operation of double-trailer trucks.

The framework also specifies approved routes and technical requirements covering vehicle weights, dimensions, trailers and semi-trailers. Only suitable roads will be designated for these vehicles to support safer and more efficient freight movement.

Applicants must hold a valid freight transportation license, while the trucks must have valid operating cards registered under the applicant’s name. Routes must also be suitable for double-trailer operations, including roads with gradients, roundabouts, intersections and bridges.
