Saudi Arabia executed two Bangladeshi nationals in the Makkah region on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, after they were convicted of committing an indecent act inside a mosque in Makkah, the Ministry of Interior said.

The ministry identified those executed as Nazrul Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akhtar. It said security authorities arrested both individuals following the incident, after which an investigation resulted in charges being brought against them and the case being referred to the competent court.

According to the ministry’s statement, the court confirmed the charges and handed down death sentences, citing the seriousness of the offence and the violation of the sanctity of the time and place where it occurred.

The two were sentenced under ta’zir, which the statement described as a form of discretionary punishment under Islamic law. The ruling found them guilty of the offence.

The ministry said the judgment became final after it was upheld by the competent authority. A royal order was then issued for the sentences to be carried out in accordance with Sharia.

In the statement, the Ministry of Interior said the government remained committed to security, justice and the enforcement of Islamic law against people who violate the sanctity of mosques or commit offences against the honour of others. It warned that such acts would be met with the punishment prescribed under Sharia.
