Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has stepped up enforcement of environmental regulations with an intensive inspection campaign targeting violations at Al-Mubarakiya Market.

The Environmental Police recorded 30 smoking violations involving individuals, in addition to one case of improper waste disposal.

Inspectors also cited a business for allowing customers to smoke inside its premises, with legal procedures taken against those responsible.

Under Kuwait’s environmental regulations, smoking in enclosed or partially enclosed areas can result in fines ranging from KD 50 to KD 100. Businesses that allow smoking may face fines of up to KD 5,000.

Improper disposal of waste can also lead to fines ranging from KD 50 to KD 500, depending on the violation.

The Ministry said the campaign is part of its ongoing efforts to enforce the Environmental Protection Law, reduce unlawful practices and maintain cleanliness and the civilized appearance of public areas.

The Ministry urged everyone in Kuwait to comply with environmental regulations and avoid prohibited smoking and littering practices to prevent legal consequences and financial penalties.
