Dubai expands its electric vehicle charging network to over 1,270 points in collaboration with public and private sectors.

Dubai's electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure has experienced significant growth, boasting a network of over 1,270 charging points throughout the emirate. This expansion includes facilities established by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), in cooperation with partners from both the public and private sectors.

Dubai Expands EV Charging Network Rapidly

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, emphasized the authority's commitment to advancing green mobility and supporting Dubai's plans for a sustainable transition towards eco-friendly transportation. This is part of national efforts to increase the proportion of electric and hybrid vehicles on roads to 50 percent by 2050.

“In alignment with our leadership’s vision to establish Dubai as a global model for smart urban development through enhanced green mobility initiatives, we launched the EV Green Charger initiative in 2014-the region’s pioneering public charging infrastructure network for electric vehicles,” Al Tayer stated.

The CEO added, “We continue this trailblazing approach by offering innovative digital services for EV charging while fostering private sector investments in Dubai’s green mobility infrastructure. Our introduction of a comprehensive licensing system facilitates the development and operation of EV charging stations across the emirate.”

This strategic move comes as over 40,600 electric vehicles have been registered in Dubai by mid-2025.

The DEWA's EV Green Charger network encompasses ultra-fast, fast, public, and wall-box chargers. In a bid to expand this essential infrastructure further, DEWA has partnered with Parkin to install additional stations at prominent locations managed by Parkin, improving user accessibility.

To accommodate all users, including those who are not registered clients, an accessible guest mode feature is available for charging. Customers can also find station locations via DEWA’s smart app or website along with several other digital platforms.

The Regulatory Framework for EV Charging Infrastructure developed by DEWA lays out guidelines that address current requirements while anticipating future needs. It ensures that Dubai remains at the cutting edge of green mobility innovation.

This framework operates along two tracks: direct development of public charging infrastructure led by DEWA and its subsidiaries; plus infrastructure developed by independently licensed charge point operators supervised by DEWA.
